AMVS GmbH (Austrian Medicines Verification System GmbH) operates a national repository that stores all prescription-only medicinal products that are placed on the Austrian market. Like in all EU member states, EEA member states and Switzerland, this national repository is connected to a central EU hub. Based on a product code and a unique serial number, each medicinal product pack can clearly identified. This is to ensure that no falsified medicinal products can enter into the legal supply chain.
Moreover, each medicinal product pack must contain a device making it possible to recognize whether the outer packaging might have been tampered with.
AMVO (Austrian Medicines Verification Organisation), the Austrian organisation responsible for the verification of medicinal products, is the sole shareholder of AMVS GmbH.
